WHY DO WE NEED IT ?

* this region's population is approx 100,000 and projected to grow to 135,000 by 2020

* a high proportion will continue to be older residents, who at present must travel to Wollongong, Canberra, or Sydney if needing such cancer treatment

* a projected treatment centre in Nowra can also serve a patient population from Gerringong in the north, to Eden in the south, and the Southern Highlands
